Here are some tips to ensure that you have a good start to your matric year:
Make a study schedule ๐โฐ
- A study schedule is a plan which outlines how and when you will spend your time studying. This plan should include which ๐subjects๐ you will study on particular days, and how much โฐtimeโฐ you will spend on each subject/topic. ๐ค๐ค๐ค
- It is a good idea to work out a study schedule at the beginning of the year so that you have made a โจhabitโจ of working according to a schedule by the time you receive your test/exam timetables. ๐๐๐
- Make sure you allocate time for ๐rest๐ in your study schedule, as overworking yourself is not beneficial for your health nor for your academic performance. ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ
Form study groups as early as possible ๐โ๐
- Study groups are an ideal way to ensure that you receive assistance with schoolwork ๐จโ๐ซoutside of the classroom๐ฉโ๐ซ. Form a study group with ๐จโ๐hardworking students๐ฉโ๐ early in the year, ****so you can help each other with difficult work.
- Forming a study group as early as possibleโณ๐ is a good way to ensure that you and your fellow group members get used to working as a team. This will help you identify each otherโs ๐ชstrengths and weaknesses๐ช, so you know who can help with which subject.
- Communication is key in any team๐ฒ๐, and a good way to ensure quality communication amongst you and your fellow members is to set up a ๐ฉWhatsApp group chat๐ฅ where you discuss schoolwork and provide each other with assistance during your test/exam preparations outside of the classroom.
Access past test/exam papers ๐๐๐
- The best way to prepare for any test or exam is to work through past papers๐๐. Past papers contain questions which are likely to be similar to questions in your future tests/exams, meaning that working through them is a great way to prepare yourself for the types of questions that will appear in your tests/exams ๐๏ธโโ๏ธ๐งโโ๏ธ.
- To get the most out of a past paper โdonโt check the memoโ until after you have at least tried to answer a particular question. Checking the memo before trying a question yourself will only trick you into believing that you understand the work
- Try to simulate exam/test conditions by โณtiming yourselfโณ as you work through the past paper. This will guarantee that you make a habit of working according to test/exam regulations and will ensure that you know how to โฐmanage your timeโฐ well when you are writing your tests/exams.

These tips will help you ace your matric year. ๐ช๐ช๐ช Always work smart, and make sure you find some time to rest. ๐๐๐
